How to use the sound files in our live show reviews: we use both MP3 and RealAudio 3.0 sound files on this site. The MP3s sound better but are larger files; the RA files are smaller but have poorer sound quality. So pick your pony, Cowboy. Fortunately, the recently released Real Player 7.0 plays both formats, is available for Mac or PC, and is absolutely FREE. Download it here. And be sure to integrate it into your browser so that it opens automatically when you click on a file. Or get your kid to do it for you.

Shh! its a secret

Then my daydreamy phone rings and its none other than Paul Thorn. "Hey Angel, could you …"

Snoozy, reviewer of Dan Bern show

The Spankers do a lot of things very well, but they excel at lowbrow bawdiness. Pops sings about funny cigarettes and White House politics, wherein "You gotta go down to go up" ...

Bob Brozman,
Kuumbwa Jazz Center, 3/27/99
(MP3 and RA)

It amazes me that his unmistakable style -- powerful and organic and based on things like the guitar's distance from the microphone and the angle at which its tilted -- only gets more precise.

Mollie O'Brien, Kristina Olsen, & Nina Gerber,
Kuumbwa Jazz Center, 3/12/99
(MP3 and RA)

Jane Doe, yet again ...

Dan Bern,
Kuumbwa Jazz Center, 3/6/99
(MP3 and RA)

And what is it with the topic of painting? Dan is nearly obsessed with opportunities to sing about painting and colors, especially blue and green. Check it out ...

Fred Eaglesmith & Kelly Joe Phelps,
Kuumbwa Jazz Center, 2/13/99
(MP3 plus RA interview)

Steve Palolopi, yet again ...

Steve Palopoli, revewer of Bob Brozman show

What Eaglesmith and his band are doing is perhaps THE shining hope for acoustic rock in America. Forget all that wussy crap like Box Set or whatever ...
