LAVIN-thebellevueyears.jpg THE BELLEVUE YEARS - Christine Lavin
$15.00
This album has a long and winding history: In 1983 it was originally a six-song vinyl EP (tracks 1-6) called "Husbands And Wives" on Palindrome Records. One song was added in 1987 (Sonja Henie) and the album was reissued as "Another Woman's Man" by Rounder Records. Here it is as a full-length CD, with live performances from interviews taped during the same time period as the original recordings. Since that was when Christine Lavin worked at Bellevue Hospital, now calling this "The Bellevue Years" just felt right.

LAVIN-flashlight.jpg Shining My Flashlight on the Moon
- Christine Lavin

$15.00
This is my ninth solo album, and as with many of my previous recordings, the songs here are little stories that come from real life. The title track came when I became lost on a country road in Vermont. "The Polka-Dancing Bus Driver" is the result of a music-filled ride to an airport. "Planet X" was inspired by an article I read about the plight of Pluto - is it or is it not a planet? The album begins by looking at the moon, ends gazing up at the whole big sky, and in between looks at life on this planet as experienced in the late 1990s.

LAVIN-please.jpg Please Don't Make Me Too Happy
Christine Lavin

$15.00
Honorable Mention, 1995 NAIRD Singer/Songwriter Album of the Year Not only does the song "Please Don't Make Me Too Happy" list all my fears if indeed I do become too happy, but, like a nightmare, they all come true by the end of the song. I think of "Jagged Hearts" as the ultimate safe-sex song for the '90s. "The Sixth Floor" came after I visited the Kennedy Museum in Dallas. I was not prepared for the experience, and wrote this song on my way back to the hotel. "Oh No" is a behind-the-scenes peek at a slice of my glamorous life. I worked on Please Don't Make Me Too Happy with some great musicians, among them guitarists Frank Christian and Steve Johnson, bassist Zev Katz, and keyboard player Tommy Mandel, and with my favorite producer, Steve Rosenthal.

Live at the Cactus Cafe - Christine Lavin
$15.00
If you've never seen Christine in concert, this album will give you a sample of her funny, lively style, and rapport with her audience. Most of the songs on this album are humorous and over the years have become audience favorites. Christine's style of asking "What was I thinking?" has been copied everywhere from TV commercials to sitcoms to talk shows.

"Lavin is as captivating an artist in solo performance as there is." -Jim Bessman, Billboard

LAVIN-compass.jpg Compass - Christine Lavin

$15.00
One of Christine's more "serious" albums, its themes include coping with ended relationships and the search for new romance. On the lighter side are a song about the "agony of da feet" wearing high heeled shoes, and a look at some public figures who would no longer be recognized if they changed their trademark hairstyles.

"If we could get [Christine Lavin] and Loudon Wainwright III named as our national folk music laureates, we'd have most of the country's problems accurately described, if not solved, in no time." -People Magazine

LAVIN-goodthing.jpg Good Thing He Can't Read My Mind
Christine Lavin

$15.00
1988 NAIRD Folk Album of the Year
The title song has been performed by choral groups from the Dartmouth Decibelles to the Paris (France) Gay Men's Chorus, and has been translated into French, German and Japanese. "Bumblebees" compares an unlikely romance to a bumblebee's ability to fly despite its seemingly unlikely design. "Mysterious Woman" is a funny and affectionate sendup of some performers' quirky personalities.
"Her lyrics combine the wit of poet Ogden Nash, the crazy viewpoint of The Roches, the sensitivity of Judy Collins and the voice of Joni Mitchell." -Performance

LAVIN-future.jpg Future Fossils - Christine Lavin
$15.00
Maybe, a billion years from now, some scientist will unearth this record, play it and discover what life was really like in our time: the secret to long life, good health, and delirious joy (Cold Pizza For Breakfast); the miracle of dance lessons and how they can lead to romance (Sweet Irene The Disco Queen); the scene of a neighborhood tragedy that still affects us all (The Dakota); and a love song for our changed times (Artificial Means). Then again, maybe not.
"Lavin can write serious, sensitive songs with the best of them. But it's her funny material that sticks in the mind." -Providence Bulletin

LAVIN-absolutelylive.jpg Absolutely Live - Christine Lavin
(1981; Reissued as CD in 2000)

$15.00
This recording was made on June 29, 1981. A few days prior, I left a message with the answering service for Hillary Rollins of Hilly, Lili & Lulu that "Sound check would be in CBS Recording Studio B at 6 o'clock." She called me back and asked why she was supposed to send a $6 check to CBS Recording Studio B? You see, this was soooooooo long ago that telephone answering machines weren't even invented yet! I'm amazed at the things I was writing about way back then, but I also find it interesting how much life has changed in the last 19 years, and what I'm writing about now.

This compact disc is slightly different from the original vinyl pressing. Thanks to the miracle of digital editing, we were able to streamline some of the talking and cut out "dead air" guitar tuning segments. We also decided to delete the song "Prince Charles," a cautionary musical warning to the Prince not to marry Lady Diana. Since the marriage ended unhappily and Diana's life was tragically cut short, it might have been perceived as mean-spirited to include it now, so we didn't. Instead, we added two songs that were recorded that night but didn't fit onto the original vinyl disc - "If I Should Call You" and "I've Been Living On Milk & Cookies (Since You've Been Gone)." I hope you like them. -- Christine Lavin
